Since 2001 MASC has provided a range of life support services to the exploration mining industry across Central, East, South and West Africa. MASC has extensive operational exploration mining experience in: Angola, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal, Sudan, South Africa and the Ivory Coast.

MASC specialises in working with both small and large scale exploration mining activities that are either remote site, resource poor and/or in areas of high threat or insecurity. MASC regularly provides safety and security advisors at the preliminary geological investigation and subsequent start-up phase of exploration mining operations as well as on site paramedics providing 24/7 emergency medical care.

Security & Field Camp Management

• Operational threat and risk assessments for new mining ventures and/or acquisitions.
• Development, design and implementation of security policy, plans and procedures.
• Provision of safety and security advisors/managers for remote/high risk area geological exploration teams (temporary or long term contract).
• Training and management of local guard forces - armed/unarmed.
• Setting up and management of field base camps for exploration mining activities.
• Management/enhancement of local workforce camps to international recognised standards.
• Ground support to helicopter geological surveys.
• Level 1 survey of landmine and/or UXO risk areas of geological interest.

On Site Paramedic Emergency Care and Emergency Response Plans and Procedures

• Provision of onsite paramedics providing routine and emergency medical care in support of remote mining operations (temporary or long term contract).
• Establishment and staffing of on-site medical facilities.
• Development, design and implementation of exploration and open cast mining emergency response plans and procedures including national and international staff casualty evacuation plans and protocols.
• The training and equipping of mine rescue multi skilled emergency response teams.
• Provision of full time onsite fire and rescue personnel.
• Site based emergency first aid training under the Red Cross certification framework.

Occupational Health and Safety Audits and Implementation

• Occupational Health and Safety audits to IFC guidelines and standards.
• Preparation of companies for OHSAS18001 accreditation.
• Fire safety inspections and audits.
• Development, design and implementation of company OHS policy and the writing of company OHS manuals and staff handbooks.
• Ensuring companies are fully compliant with national labour and mining codes in relation to all aspects of health, safety, medical support and on-site emergency response services.
• Provision of operational OHS staff to support exploration and open cast mining operations (temporary or long term contract).
• Site based health and safety training.
• Driver training including off road and vehicle recovery training.
• Ensuring local partners and subcontractors comply with OHS policy and procedures.
