CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radioactive or Nuclear) Awareness


Course length

The courses vary in length from 1 - 2 days, depending on the exact module chosen.

Course aim

To promote awareness of, understand the threats of, and know how to react and respond to, a Chemical, Biological, Radioactive or Nuclear (CBRN) terrorist attack either in the UK or overseas.

Who is it for?

Government and non-government staff working in areas or occupations at risk from potential terrorism.

Course content

Awareness:

MASC provides education and training packages on the following subjects:


  • The history of chemical and biological warfare
  • The impact of the previous use of chemical and biological agents (case studies)
  • CBRN world related events
  • The current threat from CBRN terrorism
  • The impact of a CBRN attack on 'first responders and duty managers' and the public and private sectors
  • The national response & assets that will be made available during a CBRN incident
  • Prevention, preparedness and response to CBRN terrorism
  • The current threat in the UK presented from al-Qaeda and/or associated groups
  • The lessons learnt from September 11th

Exercises

MASC provides tailor made exercises at strategic, operational and tactical levels specific to the needs of individual organisations or multi-agency task groups working within CBRN major incident planning and response.

Strategic CBRN exercises currently available:


Exercise Golden/Silver Chalice: The deliberate release of anthrax spores during a major public event.
Exercise Golden/Silver Dragon: The deliberate release of the 'variola major' strain of smallpox in a city centre.
Exercise Golden/Silver Winter: The detonation of a terrorist radioactive device "dirty bomb".

Exercises:

MASC is able to provide strategic exercise to the Humanitarian Aid Sector that will deal with the complex issues surrounding the delivery of humanitarian aid in response to the use of a weapon of mass destruction (WMD).
